What is the best way to get discount Broadway tickets?

nice_fun_roddy asked:

I will be moving to NYC this June, and want to take my best friend to a Broadway show once I get there… but I don’t want to spend so much. Any suggestions?

  1. Save money at Kelseys Bar in Royal Leamington Spa with the Smarter Card

there are a few places I know that one is in Time Square where you can buy cheaper tickets to Broadway shows. As I recall they are tickets for the same day as you purchase. It has bee a number of years since I did that, so I am not sure it the the same process is in place.

try TKTS in time square, the only thing is you have to go there the day you are planning on seeing the show…
plus if the show is close to being sold out, you will get seats in the back, but they are cheap and the seats are still pretty good!

subscribe to playbill.com. It is free and they give members discounts that are not on sale at the TKTS booth.

If you want to see the show on a preview, you could call the company and ask how to get a hold of dress rehearsal tickets. Dress rehearsals are the same as the performance, except and they usually sell the tickets to students or non profit institutuions so they can see a quality performance for a waaaay cheaper price. You could get in to se a show for as low as 5, 10 or 15 dollars.

Contact the Theater Development Fund which runs the TKTS booth on Times Square and become a member. They will send you offers for discounted tickets prior to their going to the TKTS booth. Then if it is something really popular go to the TKTS booth for half-price tickets for the day of the performance. Also you can go for stand-by tickets at some theaters (you need to check with the individual box offices). The Metropolitan Opera offers standing room tickets which are naturally cheap. Then some theaters offer student, military and senior citizen discounts also. Good luck.
